Santa Maria Style Beans
Last night dinner was a Santa Maria Valley style bbq: tri-tip, salad, and pinquito beans. Now I am not a huge bean fan, but I have to tell you that I *love* this recipe. It's traditionally made with ham and bacon; I usually just add bacon, and I'm sure they'd still be pretty good without meat at all. Also, I hate wasting half a can of tomatoes, so I just throw a whole can of diced tomatoes in. Does that mean they're not as authentic? Purists would say yes. Does that mean they aren't delicious? Hells no! Try this recipe as a side or on its own--and if you buy yourself some Rancho Gordo Beans you will not regret it.
