Jamaican Beef Patties

A friend told me about this recipe when she made it with her daughter as part of a school project on Jamaica.  It looked intriguing, so I gave it a shot.  And...they're great!   These are not only delightful for dinner, but also make a great high-protein snack.  I like to make these with buffalo or bison meat since they're lower fat and higher in protein, but no matter what meat you use, they're fantastic.  (I made these at the Workout and Wine event and they were a crowd pleaser.)

I typically make these with regular puff pastry and breadcrumbs, but for the W&W event I went gluten-free since I have a few GF folks in attendance.  Just a note: If you use GF puff pastry:  1) it seems to take FOREVER (ie, more than 1 hr) to defrost, and also 2) it is not as forgiving as regular puff pastry. There were a lot of holes.  Luckily, they tasted good enough so no one cared too much.
